Our microwve society has created a practice of building things cheap because it is easier to buy a new one than to have the thing repaired. People here would rather live in a new house that is poorly designed and poorly built because all they want to do is drive their expensive car into the garage walk directly into the air-conditioned house, turn on the television, heat their pre-prepared dinner from Whole Foods in the microwave and watch their Dancing with the Stars.

The second and more inportant part of americana that we are losing is the starter home/empty nester house. The small house that is for those who want to stop paying someone else rent and own their own home, but can't afford to because all the small houses are getting torn down. And, the small houses that those whose kids are married and moved away and would like to reduce the overhead and upkeep they have in a bigger house.

That's why we love our area which is a historic district. Nearly every house has a front porch. At all times during the day there are people walking the streets enjoying the day, the neighborhood, and the shaded streets among hundred year old houses and 70 year old trees.Mark.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08642898712920139747noreply@blogger.com
